Increases in Handicaps ALL Categories
The
Handicap Committee decided that none
of the recommendations for increases in handicap would be implemented.
5.
No Returns
The number
of no returns listed for
individual members was disappointing in that some members returned a
very high proportion of no returns during the season. As you will see
from my report for the AGM many of these are when playing in Stableford
competitions. It is not clear whether members are aware that they are
playing in this type of competition.
6.
Lapsed Handicaps
Again the
report highlighted a
large number of lapsed handicaps so please check your handicap status
before the playing season starts.

Winter Rules (with
Immediate Effect)
1. Due to their adverse affect on the course at this time of year, the
use of golf trolleys is not
permitted. Special concession may however
be granted to members who are aged 60 or over, or who produce a medical
certificate to the club secretary.
2. For play
from the fairway the use of fairway mats is mandatory
for all play. Play is required to be either from
a mat, or
by taking the ball at least 1 metre (no more than 2 metres), into the
nearest rough. A ball taken (but not hit) into the rough may be cleaned
and placed.
3. Further
notice will be given when the above rules change.
Hayston Committee (06/11/09)
Winter Program - Phase 1
The
Greens sub committee have recently met with Tom Currie, our Head Green
keeper, to discuss a winter programme focussing on making further
improvements to the course over the coming months.
The identified
improvements will take place in 2 phases and work on the 2nd phase will
not commence until phase 1 is complete. Phase 1 should be complete by
31st December, weather permitting.
Work identified for phase 1 includes the following:
1.
Improvements to the bunkers on holes 1 & 2 including reshaping
to improve the look and playability.
2. Improvements to the bunker cases to alleviate the problems with
stones and create a better playing surface.
3. Fix and tidy up the red ash paths.
4. Repair/improve drainage around the course.
The work
proposed will cause some upheaval during the coming months with certain
areas marked as GUR.
Further updates will be issued as work on phase 1 progresses.
James Paterson
Greens Convenor (19/10/09)
Practise on the
Course/Pitch Marks
Can I remind all members that
it is NOT
PERMITTED TO PRACTISE ON THE COURSE! Members should use
the practise areas provided.
Also
with the poor weather I notice there have been a lot more pitch marks
than usual, can we please repair these as they happen.
"The average
golfer leaves about 12 ball marks during a typical round of golf. With
a daily average of 160 rounds on a typical golf course, the greens will
suffer 1,920 ball marks each day and 58,400 ball marks per month
equating to more than 700,000 ball marks each year."
In order to keep the greens as good as they have been we need these
repaired.
Thanks for your support on this matter.
James Paterson
Greens Convenor (17/09/09)
Fairway Distance Markers
New
150 yard distance markers are now ready to be put in place however as
it is near winter I have decided to hold these back until next season,
these will be in a fixed position with the correct yardage to the front
of the green. Will also need to put a local rule into process to allow
relief from the fixed markers. Will up date further when in place.
James Paterson
Greens Convenor (17/09/09)
New Scottish Licensing
Act - Efective from 1st September 2009
Members
are reminded that ALL visitors to the club, including wives, husbands and partners, must
be signed in through the Visitors Book located at the bar.
Members are
required to remain in the company of the visitor. If the member leaves
so does the visitor.
This
is a legal requirement and failure to comply could result in the loss
of
our licence as Licensing Standards Officers have been appointed and can
enter our premises at any time.
Bar and
catering staff have been instructed and have the full support of the
Management Committee in upholding these rules.

3rd and 15th Holes -
Where has the common sense gone?
There have been several
instances of disputes over priority at the above holes during general
play.
At
the 3rd tee the sign states that priority should be given to players on
the 15th. However a degree of common sense is required when playing
these holes.
1. If players are well across the fairway playing the 15th players on
the 3rd tee must wait until all players are clear.
2.
If players have teed-off at the 15th and have not gone past the line
between the 3rd tee and 3rd green they should allow the players, if
any, on the 3rd tee to play to save time.

The boundaries of the course shall be as follows:
1st to 17th holes -
All fences and stone dykes on the perimter of the course.
18th hole - Fences
to the left, right and beyond the green. Beyond the white posts

Out of Bounds - 18th
hole (a) area beyond the defined line across the path, (b) the
car parks,
(c) on or over the path from the Professional's Shop to the
gates, (d) the
paved area in front
of the Clubhouse, and (e) the triangular grassed area near the
Clubhouse.
2. Staked trees will be treated as immovable obstructions
- see Rules of Golf 24(2).
Note that
interference in the line of play is not of itself interference under
this rule.
3. Sprinkler heads: Relief may be given
under Rule 24(2) and in addition, if a ball lies
off the putting
green, but not in a hazard, and the sprinkler head is within two club
lengths of the ball
and intervenes in the line of play then the player may take relief
as follows:
(a) not nearer the hole
(b) avoids such intervention
(c) is not in a hazard or on a putting
green
The ball may be
cleaned when so lifted.
4. Artificial paths: lift and drop within
one club-length without penalty. Rule 24(2)
5. Artificial ditches - beyond 3rd green
and right of 6th green - to be treated as GUR.
6. A ball lying on any putting green
other than the hole in play - drop clear of the green,
not nearer the
hole, at the nearest
point of relief without penalty.
4th green: a ball
lying on the 11th green, when playing the 4th, must be lifted and
dropped
clear of the green, but not nearer the hole, without penalty. Rule 25(3)
applies.

without penalty. Rule 24(1)
8. For all types of stroke and match play

information by
using a device that measures distance only. If, during a stipulated
round, a player
uses a distance measuring device that is designed to guage or
measure other
conditions that might effect his play (e.g. gradient, wind speed,
temperature etc.) the player is in breach
of Rule 14(3) for which the penalty is
disqualification, regardless of whether
any such function is actually used.
9. If Winter Rules are in operation, a
ball plugged through the green may be lifted,
cleaned and dropped
without penalty.
10. All flower and shrub beds - lift and drop
without penalty. Rule 24(20)
